Self-order terminal — guests order themselves, kitchen benefits
A self-order terminal reduces waiting times, takes pressure off staff and increases the average ticket through consistent upsell suggestions. GastroSystem runs on any standard tablet from 10 inches or on a dedicated kiosk enclosure. No proprietary hardware, no app store requirement, full integration with your POS.
A self-order terminal is a self-service kiosk where guests place and pay for their order themselves — without waiting for service staff. In a restaurant with 80 lunchtime guests, a self-order terminal can reduce ordering wait time from 4 minutes to under 90 seconds.
Attract mode: the terminal markets itself
When the terminal is not in use, an attract mode runs automatically: animated product images, daily specials, current promotions. You configure the content in the dashboard. The attract mode draws in guests who would otherwise order directly at the counter — and guides them gently into the self-service process.
Age verification for alcohol and tobacco
When a guest adds an alcoholic drink or tobacco product to the basket, an age confirmation screen appears automatically: 'Please confirm with our staff that you are of legal age.' A staff member releases the order via PIN or fingerprint. All releases are logged with staff ID and timestamp — for age verification compliance.
Accessibility: larger fonts and operating height
The terminal UI is configurable in two versions: standard and wheelchair-accessible. In wheelchair-accessible mode, fonts are larger, buttons are scaled up and the critical interaction area sits below 1.20 m screen height. For kiosk installations we recommend a height-adjustable mounting bracket.
Payment terminal directly connected
Connect a Sumup Air, Stripe Reader, Ingenico or ZVT-compatible card terminal directly to the self-order terminal. The guest selects payment on screen, the payment terminal activates automatically. No second till, no staff involvement in the checkout process. Receipt by email or print.
Upsell logic after the main course
After adding a main course, the terminal automatically suggests suitable additions: drink with the burger, dessert after the main, larger portion for €2 more. You configure the rules once. Typical effect: €1.20–€2.50 higher average ticket per terminal order compared to counter orders.

Common questions about the self-order terminal
What hardware does the self-order terminal run on?
On any Android tablet from 10 inches (recommended: Samsung Tab A9+ or Lenovo Tab P12) or iPad from iPad 9. For kiosk installations we offer a robust enclosure with integrated printer and payment terminal as an optional hardware bundle.
How is age verification for alcohol handled?
When an alcohol product is added, a notice screen appears. The guest is asked to obtain age confirmation from staff. A staff member scans their employee QR code or enters a PIN — only then can the order be paid. All releases are logged with timestamp.
Can the terminal run alongside the counter till?
Yes. Terminal and counter till run in parallel on the same system. Terminal orders appear in the central dashboard and print on the same receipt printers. No separate workflow, no separate till.
